"Bordeaux 2005, 10 Years on"
17,5 , Very dark crimson. Broad spread of aromas – really rather like Petrus in that respect (though not in build). Classic, non-showy palate that has a notable charge of tannins. Very clean and bracing but with a most impressive nose.

From a recent tasting, Adam Lechmere selects his top choices and his best-value wines from the wonderful 2005 vintage.
Pessac-Léognan
Rich, powerful and savory wines, from the hints of smoke and bacon in Haut-Bailly to the rich licorice and blackberry of Smith Haut Lafitte. The appellation stands out for its opulence and depth; Haut-Brion, and its renowned sister La Mission Haut-Brion, though many levels above in terms of price, hardly eclipse the likes of Domaine de Chevalier.
Top choice: Domaine de Chevalier, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan
Rich creamy nose, real sense of depth and richness, blackberry compote, truffle, licorice. Instant austerity, though, on the palate, leading gradually to fine damson, violet perfume and fresh acidity. Delicate deceptively fine length with gripping, juicy tannins.

On Saturday took place a great tasting organised by Panos Kakaviatos at Washington D.C. . The participants were some wine merchants, sommeliers, restaurateurs, wine bloggers, wine-lovers.

followed at lunch by : Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 1991, 1981 and 1961
et Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2001, 1991 and 1981.

Stephane Derenoncourt, who was hired as the winemaking consultant, has built in more texture while retaining the terroir's tell-tale elegance and fragrance. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, it boasts an inky/ruby/purple color as well as a sumptuous perfume of lead pencil shavings, charcoal, black currants, cherries, smoked herbs, and spice. With soft tannin, medium to full body, beautiful opulence, impressive purity, and abundant tannin, it may close down after bottling. Anticipated maturity : 2008-2025"

" Ce domaine de Chevalier blanc 2005 fait un magnifique retour dans mes très bonnes notes de dégustation. J'apprécie tout particulièrement son absence d'oxydation et son grand toucher de bouche qui le distingue radicalement de ses pairs quand il est à son meilleur niveau.
Le nez est fin, fruité, pur et intense. Il sent la pêche, la poire, le fenouil, le buis, la vanille et prend et une expression plus intense à l'agitation. Vif en entrée de bouche, mais gras puis soyeux, il se développe très, très savoureux, très aromatique, complexe, suave, et fondant. Très, très belle longueur sapide.
Bravo ! "
